WHY SHOULD I GO ON A MISSION PROJECT?
WARNING: READING THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS TO A STAGNANT FAITH!
Mission projects are not just for the super-Christians, the extreme zealots, the confrontational evangelists, or the quirky weirdos! READ ON!
Believing that God has a mission (Eph 1:8-10) that is all about redemption (Rom 3:22-25) and reconciliation—of people to God (2 Cor 5:18-19) and people to one another (Eph 2:14-17), and that Jesus has chosen us, his people, to carry on that mission (Gen 1:1-Rev 22:21), it is certain that we must continually grow to love what he loves and act as he acts.
Another certainty: when we limit our focus to one particular nationality, ethnicity, income-level, to one particular demographic of our extraordinarily diverse world, we essentially dismiss God's holistic mission to redeem and reconcile people of every tongue, every tribe, and every nation (Rev 5:9). On the contrary, when we spend our days enlarging our understanding of this world and its peoples, we are effectively enlarging our understanding of God, the enormity of his love, and the breadth of his mission.
The Question Is...
What's your default missions stance? Do you assume you'll stay until God tells you to go? Read through some of the passages above again. Wouldn't it make more "biblical sense" to GO until God tells you to stay?
ARE YOU READY TO GO?
