Be a Missions Coordinator for your InterVarsity Chapter!
Back in 'the day,' student missions coordinators were plentiful in IV chapters everywhere. More recently, though, they have become a rare breed, indeed. One reason for this decrease in people filling that role is that there has been less and less of a comprehensive understanding of what a Missions Coordinator would do.
NOT SO ANYMORE!
As our InterVarsity region (MN, ND, SD) continues to develop a long-term missions strategy, we are in need of more and more student involvement...not just as participants on projects, but also in these areas:
- being in charge of summer project promotion
- helping integrate a mission mindset into your chapter's normal activities (we call this Mission Integration)
- putting together "sending teams" for your chapter's summer missionaries
- helping to encourage other students to give two years of their life back to ministry & mission after graduation
- helping to develop your chapter's mission plans and goals
Missions Coordinator FAQ
What is the time commitment?
This would ultimately be up to your campus staff worker. It would probably mean a minimum of three hours per week.
Would this be a Servant Team/Exec position?
Again, that would be up to your current Servant Team/Exec and your campus staff worker. In the past, some chapters have chosen to have Missions Coordinators on their Servant Team/Exec, but the position would not have to be such.
What makes a good Missions Coordinator?
A good Missions Coordinator, first and foremost, is a student who is growing in love for God, his Word, his people, and his purposes. Other desireable qualities include:
- an understanding of God's global heart
- a heart for cross-cultural ministry/mission
- experience on a mission trip
- an ability to lead others
